Just discovered my 13month old boy has a peanut allergy
Hello! I'm new to this group and have a few questions concerning my 13 month old son who has a peanut allergy. I just gave him a bite of a Lara (peanut and dates) bar yesterday and within min's he was drooling,Louis Vuitton, vomiting and after about half and hour, he was covered on hives. I called 911 and his Dr. As soon as he started the drooling and vomiting. Both said he should take Benadryl and I should closely monitor him to make sure he has no swelling of the throat and mouth that would cause him to have difficulty breathing. The hives didn't appear untill after the benadryl. So I'm pretty sure the hives were just a delayed reaction to the peanuts but may e it could have been from the Benadryl (it contained red food dye). Both peanuts and red food dye were things he hadn't had untill yesterday and I know that both are common allergins. Any thoughts on that? Of you child gets hives after eating peanuts, do the hives appear right away? Also I'm a breastfeeding mom and I'm wondering if me eating peanuts would cause him to have another reaction. I have been eating peanuts on a regular basis all durring my time nursing him and I never noticed it having an affect on him. I am just hesitant to continue eating them knowing maybe his sensitivity is hytened. Any advice concerning this would be so helpful! Thanks!!
My DS was recently dx at the beginning of the month with a peanut allergy. For him the hives appeared just over an hour after he ate peanut butter. The wheezing and coughing started 1st actually. It depends on the individual person on when the specific symptoms will appear and in what order. My SIL is allergic to tree nuts and for her the hives and itching start 1st then progresses into trouble breathing.
